This eternal truth has always been the core of several practices in various religions. Recently, I came across an interesting practice by Buddhist monks: the tradition of sand Mandalas.The word 'Mandala' comes from the Sanskrit, meaning 'Circle'. Mandala art is a captivating expression and intricate design created using various geometric patterns and shapes.

The Circle of Life

The monks bend over the piece for hours on end, dropping one grain of sand after another into intricate symbolic patterns.The act of making a sand mandala is believed to be sacred and has deep philosophical importance, symbolism, and meaning. Each sand mandala varies in size, shape, and color depending on the lesson the monks want to teach.Hinduism and Buddhism use mandalas for meditation and enlightenment. However, in recent times, they are also appreciated simply for their beauty and aesthetic appeal.

Making a Sand Mandala

Mandalas are beautiful and colorful works of art created for healing, spiritual attainment and meditation.
Various monks spend weeks creating sand mandalas, which require immense patience, resolve, and cooperation and feature intricate details. While the process is laborious and stunningly powerful, its message goes deeper.

The Art of Creating Sand Mandalas

When the mandala is finally finished, however long it takes for the monks to deal with this divine geometry of the heavens, they pray over it, and then they destroy it. They sweep it up, every last grain of sand, and give handfuls of it away to those who participate in the closing ceremony as a final memory of sublime possibility. Then they throw the rest of the sand into the nearest living stream, to be swept into the ocean and bless the whole world. And that's it. It's gone. In an instant, after all that artistry and work, it's over.

Mandala Creation and Destruction

This tradition teaches monks ‘Anitya’ -the art of De-attachment, as they believe that the main reason behind all the miseries of human lives is attachment.
Attachment with both tangible and intangible possessions and hence the creator of mandala destroys the masterpiece with own hands which was created with so much efforts. It also teaches them about impermanence of our existence which implies not to become engrossed in too much of self and materialistic gains. It instils a selfless nature within them which in turn provides an urge to serve humanity.

Anitya

Possibly, in this fast-paced life once in a while we must take some moment for introspection and must realise the impermanent nature of life, find meaning of our own Mandala and align our actions with them. Certainly, this tradition tacitly provides a vivid perspective to understand that life is temporary, transient and ephemeral.

Duty is relative and varies according to time, place, and circumstance. We should not impose our duty on others, but respect their duty. The highest duty is to realize our true nature, which is divine. We should not be attached to our duty, but perform it as a worship of God. This book can be considered as the best work covering a wide range of problems, written at an artistically high level.Despite this, you can read it in one breath because the writer leads you on a journey of deep feelings with all intensity, making "Crime and Punishment" one of the most sophisticated novels in existentialism, psychology, tragedy, drama, and detective genres.

Genre And Impressiveness

Since i love this book with whole my heart , and am a great fun of Dostoevsky's work in general, i can't stop myself from explaining why i became obsessed with it and it's main character

Crime and Punishment focuses on the mental anguish and moral dilemmas of Rodion Raskolnikov, an impoverished ex-student in St. Petersburg who formulates and executes a plan to kill an unscrupulous pawnbroker for her cash. Raskolnikov argues that with the pawnbroker's money he can perform good deeds to counterbalance the crime, while ridding the world of a worthless vermin. He also commits this murder to test his own hypothesis that some people are naturally capable of such things, and even have the right to do them. Several times throughout the novel, Raskolnikov justifies his actions by comparing himself with Napoleon Bonaparte, believing that murder is permissible in pursuit of a higher purpose. Dostoyevsky conceived the idea of Crime and Punishment in the summer of 1865, having gambled away much of his fortune, unable to pay his bills or afford proper meals. At the time the author owed large sums of money to creditors, and was trying to help the family of his brother Mikhail, who had died in early 1864. Projected under the title The Drunkards, it was to deal "with the present question of drunkness ... [in] all its ramifications, especially the picture of a family and the bringing up of children in these circumstance, etc., etc." Once Dostoyevsky conceived Raskolnikov and his crime, now inspired by the case of Pierre François Lacenaire, this theme became ancillary, centering on the story of the Marmeladov family.

Let’s say you have no races, you have no classes, no nothing: there’s no purpose in your life. You know, people need to have purpose to get up, they need purpose to perform. You need to get to a point in your life where there’s nothing on the docket, there’s no 5K, there’s no “I’m going to get into school to be this or that” and still perform to the highest level. Because what people don’t get is one day that thing’s going to come up and if you’re not constantly performing without purpose, you’re not going to be ready when the time comes.

It’s this magical thing, purpose, that we’re all looking for, but what’s funny about it all is that we need these things to perform but we don’t take a second to realize that the purpose is always there; the purpose never leaves us. Because the very purpose is you. You are always the purpose. There may be another purpose, like being a seal, or going to college or whatever, but the main purpose in life is you.

So if you wake up in the morning and you don’t want to do something, you don’t care enough about yourself. And that’s what you need to really research: “Why am I not doing this for myself?” Because that is the number one purpose in life: it is to better oneself. That’s the only purpose.

“Because the very purpose is you. You are always the purpose.”

If you are someone like David Goggins who wants to live an extraordinary life you must be prepared for it. Nothing great will come easy to you. David Goggins has this mentality of never working hard enough, there is always space for more, and you must give it your all. STAY HARD!
