Then, shift the conversation to ask what they think they should do differently, before adding your recommendations on what they can do differently. Coach on the granular skills and disciplines required to show up and stand out online. For instance, a salesperson who is used to sitting at a desk may now need to stand on video calls to project more positive energy in those calls

With collaborative work, it’s not always clear who has done what, which leaves the door open for a colleague to take undue credit.

Things Get Murkier In  Collaborative Work

There is no sense in making a scene in a meeting or confronting your colleague in the hallway. If you’re emotionally piqued at being ripped off, it’s not the time to talk about it. 
Neurologically your mind is not working at its best and you may get out-argued. Take a day or two to calm down. But don’t stew about it for so long that, by the time you talk to the person, you’re ready to explode. You also want to make sure the incident is still fresh in everyone’s mind.

When The Problem Doesn’t Go Away

In collaborative projects, it’s important to agree on upfront on how credit will be allocated. Who will present these ideas to the senior team? Who will field questions? Who will send the email to the rest of the company? At the same time, people need to be able to revisit these agreements if the expected proportion of contributions changes, so be flexible.

When communication technology makes a new thing (like responding on the go) possible, doing that thing can be a way for people to signal how dedicated they are as workers or family members—and, crucially, not doing that thing can suggest that they aren’t dedicated enough. Now when people feel they haven’t responded sufficiently quickly, they think they owe their correspondent an apology. Example: When Blackberry phones became popular, people thought it was a kind of superpower to respond to texts and email messages on the go.

The Spiral Of Expectations

With the mass adoption of email and smartphones, is that the “acceptable” window of response time has gotten much smaller.
